Conclusion

Conclusion to this series of reviews

The films of 1999 were diverse, original , different, groundbreaking and creative. You’d have to admit this year of movies was unlike any other time period before it. New territory was explored, genres were shattered and rules were broken, to be changed forever. Even today, the legacy of films released in 1999 can still be felt, continuing to influence the way movies are made, what they’re made about and how they are experienced.

Who could imagine action movies now without the influence of “The Matrix”? Who will ever look at floating shopping bags the same way again after “American Beauty”? Has camping in the woods ever been the same since “The Blair Witch Project?” Like most of us were, were you convinced that ghosts really did exist after experiencing “The Sixth Sense?” So many great stories, chock-full of unforgettable scenes, brilliant performances, and superb twists and surprise endings that took you totally by surprise. Yep, it’s safe to say the movies of 1999 were in a league all of their own.

You could probably think of other great films from that year that didn’t make this list, and were just as significant as the ones I did talk about. In my opinion, these were the Top 20 Most Significant, Impacting and Important films of that year.

If you didn't experience these movies at the time of their original release, don’t fret. They’re still available for your viewing pleasure on DVD today ;) I really enjoyed rediscovering some of these films to write my reviews… maybe it’s time you revisit them yourself and revel in the brilliance that was on display. And if anyone says to you “That movie is so 1999” while you watch them, you can confidently reply “Yeah, I know. And there will never be another year like it!”
