American Pie
In a nutshell: four teenage buddies decide to make a pact;
score for the first time before prom so they won’t go to college as virgins.
Each character is different and approaches this mission in his own way, and the
result is a gross-out comedy of full-frontal gags, but surprisingly, a lot of
heart.
What was different/original about
it? Following on
from “There’s Something About Mary”, this comedy pushed the envelope in terms
of physical humour. It’s now viewed as the definite teen movie of its
generation, and over a decade later, still churns out sequels with the original
cast and entertaining stories – and that’s saying something.
How did it change movies? It continued to set the trend for almost every
comedy to follow; they needed to be physically gross, rude, crude and original.
It gave the world several catch phrases and quotes which have entered the
common lexicon, and other movies. For example, what can happen at band camp
with certain instruments…
